The distance between New York City and London is more than five and a half thousand kilometers. Usually this journey is completed by flight in several hours. But will this distance be covered in just one hour in future? The idea is to connect the two cities with a transatlantic tunnel. Recently Elon Musk said that his company The Boring Company can build this tunnel for 20 billion dollars. Well, this concept is not new. For many years there has been talk of building a tunnel more than 4800 kilometers long under the Atlantic Ocean. However, this has been considered impractical, because not only will the expenses be high, but there will also be technical challenges. Now Musk’s statement and the progress in technology have brought this idea back into discussion. <\/p>\n

According to a TOI report, the idea of \u200b\u200bbuilding a tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean under the Transatlantic Tunnel has been proposed for many years. It is believed that high speed train will run between America and UK in this tunnel. At present, the journey between London and New York is completed in 8 hours by flight, whereas the theory of transatlantic tunnel will end this journey in just one hour. If this happens, it will be a revolutionary step for the world’s transportation system. <\/p>\n

Previous estimates have put the cost of the transatlantic tunnel at $19.8 trillion. Compare this with the 38 kilometer long tunnel connecting France and England which is under water, the cost of which was 12 billion dollars and the project was completed in 12 years. According to that, it will take many years to build the transatlantic tunnel and the expense cannot even be imagined! <\/p>\n

But Elon Musk is claiming something else. Through his company, ‘The Boring Company’, he proposes projects that are unique. According to the report, recently Musk claimed that The Boring Company can complete the transatlantic tunnel for just $20 billion. According to the report, Musk’s confidence may have come from the technological advancements in tunnel construction and the Hyperloop concept. <\/p>\n

Hyperloop technology is much discussed. In this technology, a vehicle passes through vacuum-sealed tunnels. The theory is that trains running in Hyperloop can achieve a speed of 4800 kilometers per hour. If this is possible then the distance from New York to London will be covered in one hour. This is just a thought though. The challenges faced in this are yet to be understood. <\/p>\n
