The government on Thursday announced a plan to borrow Rs 8 lakh crore from the market in the first half of FY 2025-26. This is 54 percent of the target of taking a total of Rs 14.82 lakh crore from the market during the financial year. This includes the release of a sovereign green bond worth Rs 10,000 crore. The gross market borrowing of Rs 8 lakh crore will be completed in 26 weekly auctions.

The Finance Ministry issued a calendar for the issue of securities according to the day of the Government of India, stating that the market borrowings will be in three, five, seven, ten, 15, 30, 40 and 50 years securities. The borrowing will include Sovereign Green Bond, which will have a duration of maturity 3 years (5.3 percent), 5 years (11.3 percent), 7 years (8.2 percent), 10 years (26.2 percent), 15 years (14 percent), 30 years (10.5 percent), 40 years (14 percent) and 50 years (10.5 percent).

The Finance Ministry said that as of now, all the auctions included in the calendar will have non-efficient bid facilities, under which 5 percent of the notified amount will be reserved for retail investors. The weekly borrowing is likely to be Rs 19,000 crore in 13 weeks through the issue of Treasury Bill in the April-June quarter of FY 2025-26. In this, Rs 9,000 crore will be released under 91 days T-Bill, Rs 5,000 crore under 182 days T-Bill and Rs 5,000 crore under 364 days T-Bill.
