Telecom equipment company Nokia said that the average 5G data consumption in India has reached 40 GB per month per month. The total customer base of 5G is expected to increase by 2.65 times in the next three years to about 77 crores.
According to Nokia’s annual Mobile Broadband Index (MBIIT) report, consumption of data, 4G, 5G, etc., increased from the annual growth rate of 19.5 percent in five years to 27.5 GB in 2024. According to the report, in 2024, 5G data use across India increased a significant increase of three times on an annual basis.
Nokia India’s Technology and Solution Head (Mobile Network) Sandeep Saxena, while presenting the report, said, “In December 2024, India recorded average 5G data consumption per user per user. We estimate that the 5G user Aadhaar will increase from 29 crores to about 77 crores by 2028 in 2024. ”
According to the report, data usage is increasing due to continuous increase in 5G fixed wireless access (FWA). FWA users are now consuming 12 times more data than average mobile data user, which is happening on the strength of new services in both residential and commercial areas.
Saxena said, “The 5G equipment landscape in India is growing rapidly, the number of active 5G equipment doubled on an annual basis to 27.1 crore in 2024. This trend is expected to rise. Out of the older smartphones replaced in 2025, 90 percent of them will be 5G based.
